Aboriginal Harvest of Snake-necked Turtles

Damien Fordham

The harvest and incubation of northern long-necked turtle eggs could potentially provide a new local industry for the people of Arnhem Land. The project has been established in conjunction with the Djelk Rangers, an indigenous land management group which care for lands in the Maningrida region, and the Institute for Applied Ecology at the University of Canberra. The project receives funding from the Linkage Program of the Australian Research Council with additional advice and support from the Key Centre for Tropical Wildlife Management.
